Events to celebrate Veterans Day 2024 Louisville: Veterans Day Parade

Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is the day we honor veterans of the armed forces, those retired and still serving in the armed forces and those killed in the country's wars.

Here are six events or ways to help you celebrate Veterans Day this year in Louisville:

WHAT: Come out to honor veterans both past and present as veterans and veteran groups march down the street along with multiple parade units to observe and honor those who sacrificed so that we may continue to enjoy our freedom. The 2024 grand marshal is Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Don "Doc" Ballard, who represents the Armed Forces Medic Corps.

WHEN: Nov. 9, noon

WHAT: Flags4Vets needs volunteers to help place 7,500 flags on veterans' graves at Cave Hill Cemetery. Participants will gather at Breckinridge School, 1351 Payne St., and enter the cemetery as a group. Sponsored by Humana; supported by Louisville Marine Corps League.

WHERE: Cave Hill Cemetery, 701 Baxter Ave.

WHEN: Nov. 9, 11 a.m.

WHAT: The annual Veterans Day event honors veterans. The celebration includes a program, lunch, and music by Smith & Co.

WHERE: In the Apex, 3600 Kamer Miller Road, New Albany, Indiana

WHEN: Nov. 9, noon

WHAT: In honor of Veterans Day, the Louisville Zoo, in partnership with Kroger, is offering free admission to the military on Veterans Day. Active, retired, and discharged military members (including the National Guard and Army Reserves) and their immediate household dependents can enjoy a day at the zoo at no cost. In addition, active and retired military and their dependents (with a military identification card) will receive 50% off food and drink concessions (not valid for alcohol) and 10% off gift shop purchases (certain exceptions may apply).

WHEN: Nov. 11, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHAT: Mike’s Carwash will offer veterans and active military a free Ultimate Wash on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The $22 value is available at all 40 Mike’s Carwash locations in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

WHAT: Veterans Day edition of Paint N Sip. Grab a brush, a glass of wine, and let your creativity flow as you celebrate and honor our veterans through art. No experience is necessary, instructors will guide participants every step of the way.
