Shaq among those honored at the 2024 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards
The Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards were held Saturday and recognized basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal for his work off the court, among other leaders.
O'Neal, one of the most dominant NBA players of all time, received the 2024 Humanitarian of the Year Award during the Ali Center's 11th annual Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards at The Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N Sixth St. in downtown Louisville.
Each year, the Ali Center honors high-profile “seasoned humanitarians” who are named as Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awardees. Additionally, the Center celebrates six young adults under the age of 30 who embody one of Muhammad Ali’s Six Core Principles: Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect, and Spirituality. Joining O'Neal, this year's honorees also include Bryan Stevenson, Niles Rodgers, Dawne Gee, Deja Foxx, Charlot Magayi, Shah Chowdhury, Mohamad Yasir, Sophie Kianni, Lianna Genvosese and Richa Gupta.
The annual ceremony serves as the Ali Center's primary fundraiser, supporting its mission-based programs, community events, impactful partnerships, digital content, and museum exhibitions.
